Library.nu might have closed its doors but in one of my previous posts somebody left a comment that its reincarnation is already online. Although, there was no link mentioned (and you will not find such a link anywhere on this blog either)
if I can find the site, you can too. True enough it looked as if it
contained the same files as library.nu. Maybe not the ones uploaded over
the last week before its closing, I got the impression that it was more like a snapshot of
the library.nu a couple of months old, but close enough. There was also no option as far as I could tell for users to upload books but the downloading was significantly simplified to just one click.
This only proves the ineffectiveness of fighting piracy by closing individual sites. Even worse, the closing of library.nu has sparkled an interest through the web to develop methods to share books in a non-centralized and more anonymous way than library.nu or even torrents. It might be true that to use these programs a certain degree of computer familiarity will be needed but according to the developers these programs will be impossible to be taken down. The only way to prevent them from working would be to close the internet itself!
What I do not understand is why publishers cannot learn from the mistakes of the music and movie industries? Why not just make books as cheap as possible? Why not have an iTunes, a Netflix or a YouTube for books? I personally believe that it is going to happen and it is in our hands to do this. So let's spread the word and let's put some pressure on authors and publishers. Let us all start asking for cheaper ebooks!

Why not put the link... I did a search and found many sites but non is a one click download.
ReplyDeleteYes, I saw much efforts have been made since the shutdown of library.nu. I also believe it will revive in an other form. But would you please share your info with us? Thanks!
DeleteMy guess is veryebooks.org, which may come closest to mirroring library.nu
ReplyDeleteI understand and fully support your decision to not post the link directly, but could you please, please at least give some discret hints as to what to search for? A clue, a keyword, a wordplay, a limmerick???
ReplyDeleteThe best result my search attempts came up with so far was bookfi.org, and while this is a really nice initiative, it does not come close to lib.nu
My guess is that he means gen lib rus ec. It has all the features he describes including the one click download. However it looks like this site can only be accessed if you have a russian ip. Perhaps there is another mirror?
DeleteFor someone who has never been to library.nu it would be very helpful if you could please post a hint to help us out
ReplyDeleteDear friend,
DeletePlease help every one with a broad hint. At the moment there are only two other sites, avax and sharebookfree.com.
frebooksusto=genlibrusec temporary disabled russian ip
Deleteavax
librarypirateme
fre=free
DeleteThe usto link is awesome! Thanks!
DeleteA anonymous poster in another thread dedicated to the closing of library.nu posted a gmail address, supposedly as a contact to some former collaborators of lib.nu trying to get a new site running.
ReplyDeleteYour decision not to post a link to the new site on your blog is probably for the best. But could you at least tell whether or not you can confirm this email address to be authentic and safe to mail to, or possibly a fake and rather to be avoided? And yes, I am both a coward and a nervous wreck, but I'm signing in for this comment, so maybe, if you do not wish to post this information in public you could contact me privately.
Kind regards and thank you for this blog and your open letter.
I really don't know. I am not affiliated with library.nu in any way and I didn't know any of the people running it or their collaborators. If you are really curious about contacting the above address, couldn't you just create a new email account and email them from there?
DeleteYes, guess that's what I will have to do eventually. Sorry, I really wasn't exaggerating about the nervous wreck part :).
ReplyDeleteThank you in any case for your kind reply and for the thought-provoking and well articulated texts you have published on your blog.
Kind regards
Dear friends,
ReplyDeleteGoogle reports that avax home has been attacked by malicious software. So till further notice I have to retract my earlier suggestion. It's a pity as the site was most useful. Gen.lib.rus.ec does not appear to make English books available.Unless some one has better info...
Dear friends,
ReplyDeleteThe good news is that Avax home is back.
regards author
ReplyDelete> the closing of library.nu has sparkled an interest...
the resource you imply has been x2 larger than LNU for a year or so. Tech'ly it mirrored LNU files, yes, but it was taking heaps more. What it was doing right, it was hiding itself and was hoping LNU will screen it forever. At the moment it contains 99.8% of LNU files. It's not a reincarnation of LNU and it started from harvesting collections from underground book-scanners, non-English speaking. 25% of it by the moment is Russian, 47% is English, the rest 28% are of other languages (tens of them). LNU represents only English.
Big thanks from us, from the resource, for not mentioning the links or names, it is vital.
Can you please gives us a clue?
DeleteYou'll find it yourself, if you need to. The less words we say, the longer live the resource will have... And serve people.
DeleteBtw, if you need the whole library (almost 10 TB), since this moment on (1 May 2012) the torrent seeding is enourmously accelerated for a half a year (till 1 November 2012). In a month or so you'll be able to get all the collection, if your channel is 100 Mbit/s or better. Buy HDD's and best available channel for a 1-2 months. We don't know what comes next, and this is to spawn the World with the seed of knowledge, so that no one can ever shut it down any longer.
Good luck.
clue please...
ReplyDeleteHi...I like to say few words about the Library
ReplyDeleteNU incident. Moreover, I can see some of those book-printers agents show very pathetic faces on the net and try to cover-up what they done to Library NU and the great damage to people who try to learn something by NU. These imperialists always try to keep other (so called underdeveloped nations) nations as their slaves and always with lower educated standards etc. Lets get together to win over these things, lets get unite and wipe out those hooligans, devils, murderers out of the face of dear mother earth.
Please invite me to the site
ReplyDeleteI have spent hour online looking for any replacement site and just cannot find one. Can someone kindly give a good hint. Smart arses like AnonymousApril 30, 2012 5:27 AM are just trolling as far as I can see.
ReplyDeletePlease can you give the link of this site my e-mail bruce.lee.90@mail.ru
ReplyDeletejust search for alternativesss to giga
ReplyDeleteRIP Library Genesis :(
ReplyDeletelegalreads.com
ReplyDeleteI personally recommend this webite. The only disadvntage that some downloads are not always available.
ReplyDeletehttp://en.bookfi.org/
http://coinread.com
ReplyDeleteall of the library.nu books are on http://library-genesis.com
ReplyDeleteyou are NOT the bookwarrior, don't fool people!
ReplyDeletehttp://library-genesis.com has nothing to do with LG, this Web-site forwards download requests to LG.
http://ebookoid.com seems to be scammers: taking private information during the log-in and asking to pay for VIP access for the new books that are free in LG.
@bookwarrior may God bless u!!! i could'nt believe my eyes when i visited the link you had suggested!!!
ReplyDeleteebookoid.com is scam, don't pay them
ReplyDeletethe only authentic mirrors of LG is give on its Web-site, all other sites aren't collaborating, most of which are a danger for users. No money should be asked from any LG sites, never pay! If you wish to pay for a book, do it in a legal way. Mirrors are here http://genofond.org/viewtopic.php?p=9000&#p9000
ReplyDeleteAny hint for the alternative

ReplyDeleteAmazon has made a kind of Netflix for books, it's called Amazon Premium. I'd say Amazon is one of the smarter companies in the book world.
ReplyDeleteI need this book "dielectric relaxation in solids"
